When it comes to music, Paul McCartney is the leader in his clan, but when it comes to fashion, his daughter Stella reigns supreme. So it was only right that Stella McCartney got to design the costumes for the Ocean’s Kingdom ballet that her father is writing the original score to for the New York City Ballet.

However the idea only came to fruition after Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins’ teenage daughter, Talicia, encouraged her father to line up the fashion designer for the task at hand.

Stella has a lot to do before the premiere of Ocean’s Kingdom on Thursday at Lincoln Center, but she isn’t worried at all.

In a recent WWD interview, McCartney said “We’re cutting it fine with the deadline. But for me that’s normal. It’s the nature of my industry.”

She later went on to say “For me, technically the pieces have to work…It’s not only a matter of working with design. The dancers have to be able to leap, twirl and stick a few people in the air.”

In regards to working with her father, Stella has said, “It’s interesting. That’s a funny one for me.  On one side, I am a daughter working with her father, which is an incredibly remarkable experience in life no matter who your father is. It’s also quite an emotional thing. On another side, I know and understand I am working with Paul McCartney.”

We are sure that Sir Paul won’t be disappointed at all. You can take a look at some of Stella McCartney’s costume sketches in the accompanying gallery.
