J. Cole has officially made it. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from St. John’s University, before signing to Jay-Zs RocNation. Since then, he released a slew of popular mixtapes and has most recently toured with everyone’s favorite Good Girl Gone Bad, Rihanna.

So what does it take to satisfy such a successful man? What does he truly enjoy? What makes him happy? We talked to J. Cole about some of his favorite things. Check them out!

GlobalGrind: Most of the titles from your projects have to do with sports. What is your favorite basketball team?

J. Cole: I don’t really have a favorite basketball team. The closest thing I have right now would be the Lakers, but that’s only for Kobe Bryant. My favorite player fell off, which is Penny Hardaway. I haven’t been loyal to one team since then, so I’m looking for one. I’m accepting applications for a favorite team! I have favorite players though: Durant, Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Kobe Bryant…

No LeBron?

Absolutely, LeBron James.

Mac n’cheese. Real mac n’cheese!

Do you have a favorite clothing brand, or are you the type to wear whatever you’re attracted to?

I like RRL. G-Star cargo shorts I like; they had the best cargo shorts all summer long. I like this line called Rag & Bone. They have some cool jackets. I like quality denim jeans. I don’t really shop labels. I might not even look at the tag, I might just try this jacket on and figure out what it is later.

Who are your favorite rappers who also produce?

Of course Dr. Dre, Kanye West, J-Dilla. Eminem maybe, because he did produce also.

You’ve performed all over NYC. What is your favorite NYC venue?

SOB’s, I did a crazy show there. Highline Ballroom was great too, but I’d say SOB’s is my favorite memory. I know I have so much more to do, though. We’re about to do the Best Buy Theater, that’s about to be crazy. There’s Radio City, Madison Square Garden, you know, I’m moving up the totem pole on my NYC venues.

What made SOB’s your favorite?

Just the timing. All we had out at the time was The Warm Up. It was packed, sold out and everybody knew every word, every song. It was just a great energy and I’ll always have a connection to that night.
