Japanese arist Takashi Murakami is already known for his rich and vibrant colored “Superflat” artwork.

But for his latest exhibition, he is taking a page out of Picasso’s life and stepping into somewhat of a “blue period” by channeling Yves Klein, in Homage to Yves Klein, an exhibition that runs from October 20th, 2011 until January 1st, 2012 at the Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin in Paris.

French artist Yves Klein was known for solely using the color “International Klein Blue,” which he created during his Proposition Monochrome: Blue Epoch show.

Murakami has since created pieces that are very true to his own style of art, but also draws inspiration from the works of Klein and includes International Klein Blue in most of the pieces.

Unlike Picasso’s famous “Blue Period,” this exhibition is not based on Murakami’s feeling of melancholy. It is simply, like the title says, paying homage to Yves Klein. So it is fitting for the exhibit to be shown in Paris.

Take a look at some of the pieces from the exhibition in the accompanying gallery, as well as a few pieces of work from Yves Klein and Picasso during his “Blue Period.”
