A tweet from MTV’s twitter account has a lot of people asking and wondering, is MTV racist? Check out the tweet below!

In my opinion, I have a problem with this tweet.  Because if you ask yourself what is a hood rapper, the answers potentially become dangerous.  For instance,  ask yourself if Mos Def is a ‘hood rapper’?  And I would guess your answer would be ‘no.’  But, then do your research, and find out that Mos Def grew up in the ‘hood.’  So, is Mos Def not a ‘hood rapper’ because he raps about things that are positive?  Then you begin to evaluate the word ‘hood’ and maybe realize that the word ‘hood’ has a negative connotation and that is why you don’t call Mos Def a ‘hood rapper’.  So, by calling someone a ‘hood rapper,’ it is saying something negative about 1, the hood and 2, that person.  As if there aren’t doctors, lawyers, teachers, businessmen and women living in the hood.  This is what we call ‘subtle racism.’  And we must call MTV out on it.
