Republican Presidential candidate, Herman Cain told supporters yesterday that he would be making an announcement today in regards to the future of his Republican White House bid.
Well, the time has come, and he has just announced:
“I’ve made mistakes in life, everybody has, personally, professionally…I take responibility for the mistakes I have made…Because of these false and untrue accusations, it has paid and had a tremendous and painful price on my family…It’s hurt my wife, my family, it hurts me and it hurts the American people because you are being denied solutions to our problems. Here is why it hurts, because my wife, my family and I, we know that those false and untrue allegations are not true!
So one of the first declarations I want to make to you today is that I am at peace with my God, I am at peace with my wife and she is at peace with me! And, I am at peace with my family and I am at peace with myself. Now, that being said becoming president was plan A and before you get discouraged I want to describe plan B. So, as of today with a lot of prayer and soul searching I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt caused on me and my family, NOT because we are not fighters.”
This announcement comes as Mr. Cain has been the subject of ongoing sexual harassment allegations from many different women over the course of the last month with the latest, Atlanta businesswoman Ginger White revealng that she had a 13 year affair with the Republican Presidential hopeful, being the most shocking.
Cain told supporters in South Carolina yesterday:
“My wife and family comes first. I’ve got to take that into consideration. I don’t doubt the support that I have. Just look at the people who are here.”
Cain urged his supporters to look past the allegations. In addition to the most recent one, he has been accused by several women of harassing them when he was president of the National Restaurant Association.
Cain continued to tell his supporters:
“There’s a lot of garbage on the Internet. There’s a lot of garbage out there on the TV. There’s a lot of garbage out there about me, don’t you know? There’s a lot of misinformation out there. You have to stay informed and check out the facts for yourself.”
