Last Tuesday I wrote an article about Matt Barnes and his vicious tweet towards a fan who bashed him while tweeting his ex-wife Gloria Govan.

After the fan told Gloria she was too good for Matt, he then messaged her back saying “bitch mind ur business. Get ur own life.”

Matt Barnes: Who You Callin’ A Bitch?!

My article addressed the fact that he called the woman a b*tch, and the idea that he shouldn’t be telling her to mind her business.

I believed that he agreed to put his business out there for the world to see and hear on the show Basketball Wives and through his personal statements, which gave people the pathway to make their own judgments.

DETAILS: FOUL! Matt Barnes’ Profanity Laced Tweet At A Fan Of His Ex-Wife

Matt apparently did read my article once I posted it on Twitter, mentioning him, and he took the time to actually confront me about it.

He tweeted:

@LindseyIndia: b4 u try & put me on blast make sure u kno the facts. Wat I find funny is when people tweet crazy things 2 athletes or (celebs) & we respond they wanna run & tell the world wat we said.. Just because were in the light doesn’t mean u can take shots at us & not expect a response, at least I dnt play that.. U take away our profession & were human, just like every1 else out there.. So yall got wat u wanted, glo & I split, but that’s where it STOPS.. So if your gonna send a crazy or disrespectful tweet to a celeb or athlete be ready for a response.. We can only ignore so much.. Remember were human b4 anything else

I responded back:

@matt_barnes22: I apologize if I offended you, my article wasn’t trying to say you’re a bad person. It was just to say how calling her a bitch was unnecessary

He fired back:

@LindseyIndia: I wasn’t offended, just make sure u have the whole story b4 u write an article on it.. People need to be more mindful like I said, just because were on TV doesn’t mean u can say #Whatever u want to us.. I gave people a look n2 mylife, now they think I owe them something. Im a MAN b4 anything, respect me ill respect u, come @ me crazy & b prepared 4 a response

I continued:

@Matt_barnes22: that’s true, but if you’re going to put your business out there, you have to expect people will judge you. If they see one side of the story, they’re going to believe it’s the only side and the truth.

He went on to tweet:

@LindseyIndia: I understand that, so they better understand if they can’t handle the response that their tweet may cause, dnt tweet in the 1st place. I defiantly respect u for this conversation.. People think they know me, they hv no clue who I am.. That show films for 8-10hrs & they edit & slice it up & take 1 sentence & make it n2 3 convos.. Its trash & people swear by it like its the gospel. so again I know I put myself in that position which Im fine with but dnt think u know me or gloria 4 that matter because #RealityTV is 90% scripted & the other 10% is fake.. You live & you learn.. U go n2 a show in a relationship good chances ur gonna come out single..

I thought it was pretty amazing that Matt took the time to address me and my article, and also that he used the opportunity to give us a glimpse into his side of the story.

Although I disagree with the way he went about firing back at that woman over Twitter, I do respect him for speaking to me in a rational manner.

Celebrities should be able to show a little teeth towards critics who bash them, being that they definitely are human just like us. We’ve seen it done before through stars like Rihanna, Wale, 50 Cent, and more! As long as they understand that once you put something out for the world to see or hear about, people are going to judge you whichever way they want.

And just because someone doesn’t always hear your side of the story, doesn’t mean you have to start biting! Keep some of that celebrity class, explain yourself if you feel it’s best, and keep it pushing.

So Matt, thanks again for the conversation. I’m glad you got a chance to speak out!
