Russell Simmons was named PETA’s person of the year, but he ain’t the only one putting in work! His devoted assistant and longtime friend, Simone Reyes is also getting some well-deserved recognition.

DETAILS: Russell Simmons Named PETA’s Person Of The Year

A devout vegan and all-around animal rights activist, Simone was honored by PETA and their relief program as they named a bullock retirement home for old and injured bulls in Sangli, India after her.

Simone received a letter directly from PETA where they stated:

Thank you for all you do, and for always remembering how important it is never to be silent.
In Sangli, in Maharastra state, in India, we have our bullock retirement home for old and injured bulls who have had a very hard life pulling carts laden with sugarcane, bricks, lead pipes, along rutted roads in the heat and dust, or working in the fields.

In honor of your help, we have now named it Simone’s Place!

Here are 11 of the staff: vets, vet assistants and caretakers, who tend the animals – as well as resident dogs from the roadway, donkeys from the brick kilns, the occasional monkey, camel, snake, chicken, wild bird or ant-eater who runs afoul of encroaching humans, and more, with four of our resident bullocks.

Congrats to Simone! It’s great to be recoginzed for hard work and devotion.
