Mark Wahlberg got himself into some hot water after the offensive comments he made regarding the 9/11 terrorist attack went public.
Mark, star of movies like Contraband, The Fighter and Boogie Nights, was actually scheduled to be on one of the flights that crashed into the World Trade Center in 2001.
When asked about it in an interview, which appears in the latest issue of Men’s Journal, Mark gave the following response:
“If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did. There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.'”
Mark not only infuriated families of 9/11 victims and the nation as a whole, he also made himself look like a delusional Hollywood actor who can’t tell the difference between his movies and reality.
However, the result of his comments weren’t all negative. His temporary douchebaggery also inspired some classic tweets like these:

Mark later apologized in the following statement to TMZ:
“To speculate about such a situation is ridiculous to begin with, and to suggest I would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible. I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive; it was certainly not my intention.”
There’s no doubt in my mind that Mark is truly disgusted by what happened on 9/11 and I think we can all agree that he probably didn’t intend to insult the passengers on the flight. It’s more likely that he tried to give the magazine an answer that would both express what he would’ve wanted to see happen to the terrorists on that flight and promote his carefully crafted “badass” image.
The lesson to be learned, kiddies: shameless self-promotion can backfire on you pretty badly.
