After two weeks of evidence against Hudson’s former brother-in-law, the prosecution has rested their case.

His attorneys were expected to present a brief defense Tuesday. They have argued that the state’s evidence is circumstantial and they could call witnesses to try support that contention.

The judge has said closing arguments could happen Wednesday. Jurors would then begin deliberations.

Jennifer Hudson sat through the trial on the fourth-row bench. She testified on the first day about the last time she saw her family alive, she also spoke about how much she always disliked Balfour.

Balfour is accused of killing Hudson’s mother, Darnell Donerson, 57, and brother Jason Hudson, 29, then kidnapping and killing Julian and leaving the boy’s body on the West Side of Chicago. Prosecutors alleged Balfour was upset that his estranged wife, Hudson’s sister, Julia, was seeing another man.
