Freedom ain’t free. Just ask Lupe Fiasco. This week he put out his newest single titled “Around My Way” and drew the wrath of legendary producer Pete Rock. Producers Simonsayz and B Side sampled and updated the same Tom Scott loop from the song “Today” that Pete Rock and CL Smooth made famous in their classic “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.).”

Pete didn’t take too kindly to this but “c’mon son.” Pete you’re my man, and you definitely know it’s not unheard for another producer to re-sample a popular loop and put his twist on it. All-in-all the record is another fine example of Fiasco’s visionary and revolutionary wordplay.

This week Pusha T (aka Pusha Ton) took the term Beef to a whole notha level on his latest manifesto “Exodus 23:1.” Not sure who he was aiming at when he fired this shot, but a Lil Wayne tweet directed toward P could indicate the intended target or targets.

Check out what Pusha is saying on this. He touches on some topics that are intended to embarrass and ridicule. Oh yes, this song is the very essence of hip-hop Beef stew, and the kid Pusha T is serving his version cold-blooded. By the way, I almost forget, as I’m sure you will, The-Dream is featured on this track.

Now I love Ludacris. No other rapper could have made a record like “Move Bitch” and gotten away with it in such a comical way. That two worded song became the popular expression of the time. After a longer than usual hiatus, Luda is back with a his first single off his next album Ludaverse. On “Jingalin” Da Internz re-did the LL Cool J 90’s classic and put their spin on it.

If Pete Rock was mad at Lupe, Marley Marl threw up in his mouth when he heard this version of his classic. Still, though, the song has a chance as it was definitely made for the strip club audience. In Atlanta, strip clubs are the underground railroad of new emerging music.

New music this week from the bad, bad soul brother they call Dwele. “What Profit” is a smooth R&B record for the grown, sophisticated and sexy. As a singer and producer, fans of Dwele already  know he’s smoother than Amber Rose’s hair in that vodka marshmallow commercial. Must hear music indeed.

If skills sold truth be told Danny Brown would’ve been rich like Rich & Po…but skills alone can’t help you navigate the murky waters of hip-hop, so you need style and swag. Luckily Danny Brown has all three ingredients, and it comes together on this House Shoes produced track “Sweet.”

Until We Read Again….
