Congratulations to Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana!
Beginning on Sunday and ending on Monday, the two managed to pull off their first ever couture collection for Dolce & Gabbana.
More of a presentation than an actual show, the 36-hour event, titled “Alta Moda,” invited a very select group of people to come and experience what the two designers have been wanting to do for the last 27 years.

Three newspapers – The Daily Telegraph, Le Figaro and Corriere della Sera – some of the world’s richest women, plus the editors from almost every international edition of Vogue were the only ones allowed to come to the event. No photographers.
The “Alta Moda” (Italian for fashion) show started on Sunday, with the 73 looks being paraded through an elaborate garden located on the island of Sicily, where Domenico Dolce was raised, and ended with a party that lasted well into Monday. In between, the attendees were individually escorted into a showroom where they could get up close to each garment. Each dress costs tens of thousands of dollars; some women left with orders that included 10 or more of the couture pieces!

One might say that the event was a great success for Dolce & Gabbana, but no event ever goes off without a hitch. With Sicilian summer pushing temperatures well into the ’90s, two atelier tailors, one multimillionaire client, and one fashion editor fainted during “Alta Moda” from heat exhaustion.
