Over the last few weeks, the Romney campaign has been heading toward a downward spiral of major gaffes and mistakes that have given President Obama an edge over the Republican challenger in the polls.

STORY: Surprise, Surprise: Money Mitt Fudged His Taxes!

From his criticism of the President’s handling of the attacks of the US embassies in the Middle East, to his announcement supporting the Affordable Care Act, and his “47 percent” insult on half the nation, Mitt’s campaign is clearly heading in the wrong direction.

However, Mitt doesn’t have to give up hope, yet. Here’s a list of ten initiatives that we’re sure would rally moderates, Independents and Democrats in his support, and guarantee his win in the 2012 election.

So if you’re somewhere out there reading this, Mitt, here are some tips that would give you the momentum your campaign needs.

1. Release Your Tax Returns, Mitt!

Turning over two years of tax returns to the American people is nowhere near sufficient, especially when you’re a presidential candidate with off shore bank accounts in the Cayman Islands and have a Swiss bank account. The business savvy multi-millionaire could help us all sleep better at night if he would simply turn over the past twelve years of his tax returns and ease our suspicions that he avoided paying taxes during his reign as CEO for the private equity firm Bain Capital. In the infamous words of the conservative right-wing, “show us your papers!”

2. Let Gays Marry

During Barack Obama’s first term as president, he was dubbed the country’s first “Gay President,” being that he overturned the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, which forced gay servicemen to hide their sexuality. He also declared earlier this year that he supported marriage equality. Likewise, Mitt could easily swing more voters to his side if he vowed to pass a national law supporting LGBT rights to marry, instead of his proposed plan to put a constitutional ban on gay marriage.

3. Give Women The Right To Control Their Bodies

In 1970, the Supreme Court passed legislation giving women the legal right to choose when they wanted to bear children in the Roe vs. Wade decision. Yet, Mitt Romney has proposed to overturn this law and negate women the right to decide whether they want a legal abortion or not. Mitt’s stance on this three-decade-long law is quite startling to many modern women, but if he stood up to the right-wing about supporting a women’s right to choose, then more women would feel empowered to elect him into office.

4. Give Immigrant Students The Right To Dream

Governor Romney has announced that if he was in power he would veto the DREAM Act, which is a policy that grants legal status to undocumented immigrants who: were brought to the US before age 16; age 30 or under; lived in the US for at least five years; have no serious crime charges; and obtained a high-school diploma, GED or served in the military. President Obama has declared his support for the DREAM Act, and although this law has not been passed, the Obama Administration issued a directive to the Department of Homeland Security that provided eligible DREAM Act candidates amnesty from deportation and work-authorization papers.

5. Increase Taxes On His Super-Rich Cronies

One way we could help the country’s struggling economy would be if Mitt Romney came to the conclusion that he ought to ask the richest one percent of Americans to pay a little more in taxes. This would be a way more popular concept with the 99 percent of Americans rather than the plan he proposed, which would actually cut taxes for the wealthiest Americans by six percent.

6. Give The American People Healthcare

Mitt Romney has declared time and time again that he would repeal the Affordable Care Act, a.k.a “Obamacare,” which is very unfortunate being that the plan allows young adults to stay on their parents’ health insurance until age 26, gives women more access to reproductive health care and expands Medicare.

7. Bring Our Troops Home

Unlike President Obama, who has declared American troops will end combat operations by late 2014, Romney has said that our troops should remain in Afghanistan and Pakistan indefinitely.

8. Regulate Banks

A Romney administration tears down the regulations that the Obama administration imposed on the economy as a measure to prevent another economic downturn, such as repealing the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which was passed in response to the 2008 financial crisis.

9. Propose Stricter Gun Laws

With the unjustified deaths of so many innocent Americans, like Trayvon Martin and the movie-goers in Colorado by the means of guns, you would think that our political leaders would stand together to enforce tighter gun regulation to prevent guns from ending up in the hands of the wrong people. However, this has not been the case. And Romney, too, stands against stricter gun control laws.

10. Sure Social Security For Everyone

When it comes to the issue of Social Security, Romney vows only to protect the status quo for people 55 and over but, for the next generations of retirees, he would raise the retirement age for full benefits by a couple of years and reduce inflation increases in benefits for wealthier recipients.
