Founded in 2004, VotoLatino is a grassroots organization that empowers American Latinos to claim a better future by voting. The Rent star explained that “79 percent of Latinos consume all of their news in English,” so VotoLatino makes sure to target Latinos from different angles and through social media.

“They’re on Twitter, they’re on Facebook, they’re on all different types of sites,” says Dawson.

“There is a savviness to the Latino American Voter. They have a lot to say. They’re paying attention and they are definitely a big part of the conversation right now.”

The Sin City actress also talked about the difficulty she experienced in trying to raise funds for her nonprofit.

“Funds are tight and it’s really difficult to rally money around, not a campaign or a person or a prop. For some reason it seems like people are able to get millions of dollars. But it’s so difficult to get money to reach out to the voters.”

The Latina beauty detailed the multifaceted outreach measures that VotoLatino is executing in order to reach Latinos from their voter registration technology, to their phone apps and their well-produced PSA’s, in which they worked with Wilmer Valderrama, Rob Hoffman, and Demi Lovato among other stars.

“It’s a whole other viral world out there right now,” says Rosario.
