Galicia Malone, 21, would not be stopped from voting, and not even going into labor could slow her down!

The young mother-to-be had contractions that were five minutes apart when she stopped at her polling center in Dolton, Ill., but was determined to cast her ballot before heading to the hospital.

As reported by CBS Chicago:

Malone said, “I was just trying to read and breathe, read and breathe… That’s what I kept telling myself.”

It was Malone’s first time voting — and her first child. “I never voted before, so this made a major difference in my life,” she said. “And I wanted this to be a stepping-stone for my daughter.”

Malone’s water broke early Tuesday, but she waited until the polling center at New Life Celebration Church was open before she left her home.

After voting, Malone drove herself to the hospital. She’ll certainly have a story to tell her newborn!
