If one pro-gun advocate had it his way, Django would be more reality than just Quentin Tarantino’s fictional movie!

Larry Ward, chairman of the first annual Gun Appreciation Day (which happens to fall on the weekend before President Obama’s inauguration) appeared on CNN to promote this new “holiday” and insist that slavery might not have existed if slaves were given guns.

No. I’m not kidding. He said this:

“I think Martin Luther King, Jr. would agree with me if he were alive today that if African Americans had been given the right to keep and bear arms from day one of the country’s founding, perhaps slavery might not have been a chapter in our history.”

In fact, he goes even further, saying that his gun appreciation event is actually honoring the legacy of MLK (the made-up day also coincides with the MLK federal holiday).

First and foremost, MLK did not condone gun violence. In no way could this honor the icon.

Not to worry, Maria Roach of United for Change USA appeared on CNN to point out everything wrong with his statement and his “holiday:”

But here’s my input. Ward KNOWS he’s trolling for gun support now because I doubt he would want to give people who were considered “cattle” guns. He probably wouldn’t be here today.

What do you think would have happened to America if slave owners up and gave slaves guns?
