Award season is in full swing, which means designers are busy, celebrities are in fittings, and behind the scenes of all this, stylists are bending over backwards to ensure their clients are looking their best. But let’s be honest, sometimes they’ve got a hit on the red carpet, and other times it’s an absolute miss.

It’s no fault of the celebs of course, because either way you slice it, the red carpet is a business. Designers either select you as their muse for the evening to advertise their gown on loan, or a stylist is paid to hunt out the best look for the night.

The Golden Globes kicked off one of the first memorable red carpets of the season last night. While the trends didn’t shift much from neutrals and drab black and whites, there were some little tweaks that could have saved a few of our Hollywood faves from making the worst dressed list.

If this were the Golden GlobalGrind Awards, these are the changes we would’ve wanted to see!

Amanda Seyfried:

The Les Miserables star is always a red carpet queen, and last night was no exception. Amanda didn’t make anyone’s worst dressed list, but many were wondering if the look in its entirety was a little too pale for the beauty. The lace dress looked gorgeous on Amanda, but blended into her skin and hair color. If Amanda had added just a swipe of color to her lips, the look would have come together perfectly!

Lena Dunham:

It must be nice to grow up in posh NYC with Zac Posen as your babysitter. And it must be even nicer of your babysitter-turned-designer pal to dress you for the Golden Globe Awards decades later, but we kind of wish Zac would have chosen a different design for Lena. Just weeks before the awards show, Lena instagrammed a photo of herself clad in a gorg red Zac Posen gown, but her selection for the red carpet was much more underwhelming. Lena almost had a hit with her gown, but we wish Zac could have met us somewhere between what we saw on Instagram and what she wore on the red carpet.

NeNe Leakes

NeNe has made it hunny! From the stripper pole to RHOA to the Globes red carpet, NeNe has arrived. However, her outfit selection last night did not reflect that. NeNe donned a full skirt (which we love) with a white button down top and a strange sash belt. The skirt was far too full to be paired with the full top. A more form-fitting top with one of our more modern standout belts featured above would have polished NeNe’s look. The dress skirt shirt (what is it?) is rumored to be by Carolina Herrera.

Lucy Liu

Lucy may have gotten the most flak for the night in this Carolina Herrera floral dress. Something about a print on that much dress just swallowed the gorgeous actress and landed her on just about every single worst dressed list, and many were underwhelmed by her messy fishtail braid. If Lucy was hell-bent on floral, she should have opted for a Zuhair Murad gown; the designer is amazing at keeping floral prints elegant and classy. But if it was a Herrera dress she wanted to wear, we would have loved to see the actress donning a soft side swept blowout and this navy look from the designer.

There is no use in criticizing if we can’t make suggestions! These are the small tweaks we think would have made the red carpet. What are your critiques?
