For the first time in history, one of the members of the Vatican has made his way to the cover of Vanity Fair.

Father Georg Ganswein, who the magazine is calling “The George Clooney of St. Peter’s” is on the cover of the January 23 issue of the weekly magazine.

Although Father Georg did not actually contribute any content to the magazine in terms of an interview or even a photo shoot, Vanity Fair explains that they dedicated a cover story to honor his recent promotion to the rank of archbishop and as recognition of his growing power in the Roman Catholic Church.

Father Georg was born in Germany, like Pope Benedict, and was promoted to Prefect of the Pontifical Household, a position that will significantly increase his power as the Pope gets older.

Father Georg’s newly found fame has given the 56-year-old archbishop the local nickname of “Gorgeous Georg.”

A spokeswoman for the magazine said Ganswein was not interviewed for the article and did not pose for the cover photo, which she said was a close-up of an existing picture.

Vanity Fair will be releasing the issue this Wednesday, and you can check out the cover above.
