Just a few years ago, the world was caught up in the whirlwind media spectacle that was Chris Brown and Rihanna’s rapidly unraveling relationship. Riddled with police charges, restraining orders, community service and attempts to halt his career, Chris Brown eventually emerged from the cloud of bad press, with the beautiful Karrueche Tran on his arm.
Some loved that he chose an unknown girl, but others compared every single inch of Karrueche Tran to Chris Brown’s ex, Rihanna.
For years, Karrueche played her “role” and remained out of the spotlight, hidden from the red carpets and away from the mics. Until now.
Following Chris Brown’s very public reunion with Rihanna, and a subsequent very public breakup with Karrueche, the Cali girl has spoken up and stripped down for the cover of Rollingout Magazine, for her very own coming out party of sorts.
In the interview, Karrueche addresses her new fame, her happiness, and her relationship with Chris.

On the newfound fame:
“The most challenging part about the attention was the negativity and the misconception from some people,” Tran says. “People only see you in blogs and they think they know everything about your life. There are things that go public and everything that comes out is not the truth.”
On what she wants people to learn from her experience:
“I hope people can learn from my story. I want to be remembered as someone who remained positive through such a negative situation. Regardless of what you’re put through or what is going on in your life, keep a positive spirit. That will help you get through it. I’ve learned to find happiness within myself. I’ve also built a strong core. The past year was a big growing up process for me. I’m not saying I was immature before, but the past year, my eyes were opened to a lot of things.”
There are many things that can be said, and that have been said about Karrueche Tran since she stumbled into the spotlight cast on Chris that subsequently shined down on her, but there isn’t one thing that she has answered to.
Her mystery keeps her interesting.
While we all feel a pang of remorse for the un-famous girl with her famous love life crumbling in plain view, she isn’t at a complete loss in the equation; she is in some ways the victor. Chris and Rihanna still had their talent to fall back on, yet they were both harshly critiqued for their reunion.
But Karrueche? Karrueche won. She won celebrity friends and the empathy of everyone who was rooting for the underdog. She won a verified Twitter account, magazine covers and suddenly her phone was ringing with requests for interviews all in exchange for a broken heart. Most of us just get a box of Kleenex and “get over it” texts.
Karrueche is faring well with her recent heartbreak, but I can’t help but wonder if the mystique surrounding the proverbial “ride or die” chick is what kept everyone so intrigued. We all wanted to know more about her, more about what it felt to be heartbroken publicly, what it felt like to be in a love triangle with two of the most coveted celebrities, but once she starts to say it all, and strip it off, will we still be as intrigued?
My guess is no.
Karrueche on the cover baring her barely-before-seen body will do one of two things: turn heads, or evoke Rihanna comparisons (hello, can we say Rihanna on the cover of GQ?) For the sake of rooting for the underdog, I am going to hope the former is what unfolds, but knowing the nature of the media, the latter it will become.
Either way, she looks stunning in the photo shoot that is sure to be a pivotal point when it comes to what exactly we associate with Miss Karrueche Tran.
