Pop provacateur Lady GaGa has caused quite the stir with her latest video ‘Alejandro.’ The Steven Klein-directed video, which is the third vid released from GaGa’s Fame Monster album, has outraged viewers with it’s heavy use of religious imagery (GaGa dressed as a nun, swallowing rosary beads). Fellow pop star and former Christian-rock singer Katy Perry went so far as to call the video ‘blasphemous’ and ‘cheap.’ This isn’t the first GaGa video to cause controversy, and it certainly isn’t the first video to push these partciular buttons.

Religion is a very personal thing. When these images and concepts cross over into the very public realm of pop culture, art, and entertainment, things are bound to get messy and people are bound to get offended. Artists ranging from Madonna to Jay-Z have caused storms by playing on this images in there videos. Here is a look at a few music videos that make use of religious imagery.
