We’ll file this under not new, but newsworthy.

As you are all probably aware, Pope Benedict XVI is the big story of the day. After eight years on the job, Benedict will be stepping down from his post, citing health concerns.

DETAILS: The Vatican Slams Media Reports Of Gay Scandal… Kinda

While reading up on Pope Benedict, we were reminded of an interesting hip-pop story. A couple of years ago, Pope Benedict and his people put out the official Vatican Playlist. It was a story that sorta became bigger news because Tupac’s “Changes” made the list (the edited version, we assume).

LIST: Did He Do His Job? 5 Things Pope Benedict XVI Accomplished Before Resigning

Here is the official playlist that was released by the Vatican in 2009:

“Advocata Nostra” – Music From The Vatican

“Uprising” – Muse

“Causa Nostrae Laetitiae” – Music From The Vatican

“Il Mare Mi Salva” – Rossomalpelo

“After The Rain” – Dame Shirley Bassey

“Coexist” – Nour Eddine

“Don Giovanni” – Mozart

“Rafaele Merry Del Val” – Lorenzo Perosi Inni Mottetti e Canzoni, Pablo Colino & Coro Academica Filarmonica Romana

“He Doesn’t Know Why” – Fleet Foxes

“Changes” – Tupac Shakur

“Regina Coeli” – Music From The Vatican

“Mi sarete Testimoni” – Santo Subito!

It’s just an interesting little tidbit we thought we’d like to bring up. It’s a pretty solid list. However, we’re a little bothered that MC Hammer’s “Help the Children” isn’t on the list.

Can you say travesty?
