Authorities are investigating an apparent suicide and possible attack after they discovered weapons and explosive devices in a dorm on the University of Central Florida (UCF) campus.

The body has not yet been identified, but authorities believe the victim is a student of UCF and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
University police responded to a 12:20 a.m call to the dorm after a fire alarm went off. A spokesman for the University of Central Florida, Grant Heston, said while university police were on their way to the site, a 911 call was placed about a man with a gun.
Approximately 500 students were evacuated from the dorm and an adjacent parking lot to ensure their safety and a swift response. Heston said, “We don’t believe there is any imminent threat to the campus.”

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI have joined forces to investigate the identity of the victim and his motives. Classes have been canceled and a statement was released on the school’s website to inform students of counselor services and class schedules.
