If you were lucky enough not to press play on LL Cool J and Brad Paisley’s controversial duet “Accidental Racist,” than you spared yourself some confusion and outrage.

The controversial collaboration attempted to close America’s racial divide, but instead, made this unlikely duo look a little misinformed and dismissive.

The overall song has been criticized for Brad Paisley excusing white people’s racism as “accidental,” while LL Cool J excuses racism with submissive statements of historical ignorance.

LL Cool J has been receiving backlash for declarations he made in the song, which include:

“I gotta thank Abraham Lincoln for freeing me.”

Oh, and we can’t forget this statement:

“If you don’t judge my gold chains, I’ll forget the iron chains.”

REALLY?!

Brad Paisley hopped on Twitter to defend the song and his new friend LL Cool J, stating:

“So, as you buy this album, I hope it triggers emotions. I hope you feel joy, heartache, triumph, surprise; you laugh, cry, nudge someone beside you…I hope the album rocks you, soothes you, raises questions, answers, evokes feelings, all the way through until Officially Alive. ‘Cause I wouldn’t change a thing. This is a record meant to be FAR from easy listening. But fun. Like life. Have a ball, ya’ll.”

What are your thoughts on the controversial song?

Good intentions, but misinformed? Or downright ridiculous?
