The Daily Grind Video

First, I’d like to introduce myself… I’m Mylan Murphy; I’m 20 years old from Akron, OH and I am an Entrepreneur/ Collegiate Basketball player at Northern Michigan University.  I started my first business when I was in 8th grade, and I’ve been on my grind ever since! I recently started Dorm Rumor which is a magazine that focuses on Collegiate Student-Athletes. I created this publication because I felt that there was a void in the sporting industry when it came to highlighting student-athletes.  Dorm Rumor isn’t the traditional magazine that you see where it’s all about sports.

The purpose of Dorm Rumor magazine is to highlight student-athletes for their athletic ability and accomplishments, but most importantly, to bring to attention the goals and visions that student-athletes have in life behind the sports they play. I personally feel that student-athletes are often placed in a category that doesn’t necessarily fit their character. So my goal with Dorm Rumor is to introduce all of you to new faces in the collegiate sporting world, with student-athletes from various schools, sports, backgrounds, etc, but at the same time, educate you specifically on their plans in their life as well.

Do you want to start a business but are unsure how to go about doing so? Let me tell you something; No more stressing out, no more saying you want to do something but never making it happen. From this point on, you’re going to move in one direction; UP! It’s seriously that simple!

The majority of people think that starting a business is a difficult process. I always hear people saying they don’t have the funds, knowledge, or time to start a business. First, if you are “mentally” determined and focused, you will make it happen, you have to believe in yourself and your capabilities. Never be scared to make moves and take risks in the business world; it’s actually a must in order to succeed!  Financial backup is obviously one of the most important parts to a business, however, if you don’t have the money; don’t think you that you can’t start a business. There are plenty of ways to get financial assistance to start up your business: family, loans, investors, and more. Take baby steps. You don’t have to get all of your start up money from the same person, and you also don’t have to have it all at the same time.

A lot of times, receiving things in increments are better anyway because it allows you to break things down and not put so much on yourself initially. Also, never be discouraged or weary with your level of intelligence. Sad to say, but there are plenty of business owners who aren’t that intelligent! It’s not all about intelligence, with all of our resources in today’s world, you can either do proper research throughout the internet on starting businesses , find the exact process and steps to get going, and/or you can grab a mentor or two to help guide you through any complications or questions you may have along the way.

Personally, in my case, I did a combination of both. I first did extensive research throughout the internet and then I would ask anyone for advice who I knew was in the position where I wanted to be. Remember, never take advice from someone who isn’t going or currently in the position you want to be! Don’t think you have the time? Yes you do, if you’re going to start a business, it should be something you love to do.
