Hey Global Grind it’s @alexishouston!

What a difference a week makes! My debut single, “CHANGE”, was released last Tuesday and I’ve been out promoting it…like CRAZY!!!

Now for those of you who know me, you know how incredibly nervous I am about meeting people let alone actually speaking to complete strangers. Well…. I’m doing it! A private victory for me.

For my 16th birthday a classmate gave me a biography of actress, Greta Garbo, with highlighted passages that ranged from eerily familiar to things he felt I did and often said. I so identified with this woman who was a consummate artist but who valued the sanctity of her private life and relationships and fought hard to keep the two as distinct as possible. Shy or just private I find myself understanding her more and more as I grow up.

Meeting the press and talking about my music is a new experience for me. In light of the ‘rough’ Summer I’ve had with all the tabloid attention, I was even more reluctant to face the public again fearing more of the same. I was forced decide if I should hide away and not live the full life I was born to or should I meet fear in the face and be the fighter my parents raised me to be… I chose to step into the ‘ring’.

Armed with my small support team and my guitarist, Sheldon, I set out to speak with and sing for everyone who would be willing to give me the chance to share my music…and I have to say, nerves aside, I met some of the kindest and most professional journalists. From jocular radio personalities to well heeled magazine editors and enthusiastic media interns, everyone seemed to  meet me with a real interest about my project and it’s creation…all I’ve ever wanted.

Whether anything is printed or aired is now somewhat secondary. It’s the new life experiences, the lessons I can learn from it all that is most valuable to me. Being dedicated, facing my fears, speaking my mind and enjoying singing live for people to enjoy are all a part of this growing process that I am embracing with open arms.
