Some proclaimed the genre died a few years ago but Hip-Hop turns 37 years old today! It was on this day in 1973 that birthed the culture we know and love today. Hip-hop originated as a music genre but quickly expanded into a sub-culture with the inclusion of DJing, emceeing, b-boying and grafiti art. Since its inception the culture of hip-hop has grown to include fashion and an extended dance repertoire. The term hip-hop was coined by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.
