Today is Russell Simmons’ birthday. My man 50 grand or should I say 53 grand? That’s right folks. Our beloved Uncle Rush turns 53 years old and today we shall celebrate! Looking back at all the things Russell Simmons has done, his birthday should be a national holiday. Okay maybe not, but from Phat Farm, The Rush Card, the Hip Hop Summit, Def Jam, Diamond Empowerment Fund, Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, Argyle Culture, American Classics, Foundation For Ethical Understanding and numerous other charities, organizations, and great causes to help the poor Russell has become an icon to the world.
I remember standing outside of the Global Grind office with Russell Simmons, talking about something, his arm in a cast, his good hand on his blackberry and he began to walk home. I said by yourself? He told me yes. I was in awe. That’s the type of man Russell is, a man of the people, for the people and by the people. Happy birthday Rush!
