Even a little reduction in daily salt intake could mean fewer heart attacks, strokes and deaths. Cutting daily salt intake by three grams – just over a teaspoon — could prevent 32,000 strokes and 54,000 heart attacks a year. Every year US prevent 92,000 deaths and nearly 100,000 heart attacks by reduction in salt. Slat is most dangerous for the blood pressure patient; reducing salt intake can enhance the effects of most anti-hypertensive (blood pressure lowering) agents and reduce complications associated with diabetes, obesity and kidney disease. If salt intake was cut from the current average of 12g per day to just 3g, it would prevent 20,500 deaths from stroke each year. If you are adult, then cut salt 6g a day. Children under the age of six should eat no more than 3 g of salt a day. Reducing dietary salt is one of those rare interventions that have a huge health benefit and actually saves large amounts of money.
