Party time is over!

Brooklyn City Council member, Jumaane Williams, has proposed legislation that requires anyone attempting to throw a party with more than 40 people to notify the police and their community board a minimum of 30 days in advance. Williams explained his proposal at a recent press conference:

“All we said is we have to inform the precinct and inform the community aboard. You wouldn’t have to ask for approval. You wouldn’t have to ask for permission.”

He also wants to enforce a fine on “house clubs,” in which people promote their parties on social media as well as charge at the door and for drinks.

Apparently, these proposals are in response to the recent Brooklyn shootout in which a man was denied entry to a party and opened fire, killing at least 8 people.

NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly has not commented on the legislation.
