Donations were collected after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in order to give support to the grieving families.

The Community foundation raised $11.4 milliion with the help of the United Way and the foundation decided to split up $7.7 million to the families of Sandy Hook. The remaining money will go to future mental healthcare.

Each families of the 26 children including the school educators that were killed during the Sandy Hook Elementary School last year will recieve $281,000. The families of the 12 surviving children who witnessed the shootings will be given $20,000 and the two teachers who were injured will get $150,000 to split between them.

‘Is the money adequate? Of course not,’ Feinberg said. ‘No amount is adequate to deal with these horrors. Money is a pretty poor substitute but that’s what we have. Solomon himself could not distribute this money in a fashion that would please everybody.’

The deputy executive director of the National Center for Victims of Crime Jeffrey Dion, agrees with the money provided to the 12 children who survived the shootings because he said it recognizes the lasting trauma survivors suffer.

The money will be given to the families within a month.

As always, our thoughts and prayers are with the families
