Forget Biggest Loser and Extreme Makeover. Officials in Dubai have devised a golden plan to promote weight loss. Literally, a golden plan.
In an effort to address the growing alarm over the city’s obesity problem, a slim-down initiative uses gold to entice city-dwellers to shed the extra pounds.
Municipal officials are offering a gram of gold – worth about $45 at current prices – for each kilogram of weight lost in a 30-day challenge. The minimum drop is two kilograms, or 4.4 pounds, to cash in.
Time will tell if gold can outshine fast-food and endless TV.
Should we adopt a similar plan in the US?
