Today we mark the 50th year since John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. And what most remember about that day was Jacqueline Kennedy’s “smashing” (as described by the president himself) pink suit and pill-box hat. After her husband was shot, Jackie refused to take off the blood-splattered suit because she wanted America to “see what they did to him.” And where is it now? The suit is stored in a secure, climate-controlled area of the National Archives building in College Park, Maryland and out of the public view until at least 2103. On Thursday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., pushed through a controversial change to Senate rules that will weaken the power of the filibuster, making it easier to approve President Obama’s nominees, but threatens to further divide Congress. Fifty-two Senate Democrats and Independents voted to weaken the power of the filibuster. The change reduces the threshold from 60 votes to 51 votes for Senate approval of executive and judicial nominees against unanimous GOP opposition. [USAToday]

A woman who was forced to point out her rapist, Gonzalo Ramirez, to a boyfriend 18-years-ago might go to jail for life. Norma Patricia Esparza, now 39, says she told her ex-boyfriend who the rapist was at a bar near Pomona College. When he turned up dead, beaten and hacked with a meat cleaver, her boyfriend asked her to conceal the crime for nearly two decades. Now, prosecutors are saying she conspired to commit the killing, even though she didn’t carry it out. [HuffPost]
