This is horrific.
A father in Texas shot and killed Johran McCormick, a 17-year-old boy who was hiding daughter’s bedroom.
According to KHOU.com, when her little brother went to say goodnight to his sister, he saw two feet sticking out from under the bed. LATimes reports:
When the father confronted the boy — identified as Johran McCormick — his daughter denied knowing who McCormick was or why he was there. The father called 911 about 2:30 a.m., police said, and a confrontation with McCormick ensued.
According to KHOU, the father told sheriff’s deputies that he saw McCormick drop his hands and he interpreted that as an attempt to grab something to attack him, so he shot the boy once.
McCormick was pronounced dead at the scene and the father was taken to a hospital after saying he felt ill.
Leticia Field, a member of the neighborhood, said to the outlet:
“As a mom, I just can’t imagine. I know the dad was trying to protect the family, but he should have let the authorities handle it.”
The mother of Johran, Zakia McCormick, also said in a statement:
“I would like my baby back, but I know that’s not possible. A call you know, I’m sorry. He didn’t deserve to die like that.”
According to authorities, the young girl was, in fact, acquainted with Johran. We pray for the McCormick’s during this time.
