As proven by the romantic comedy About Last Night, there’s one thing that every single man in the world needs and that my friends, is a good wingman.
Take it from a girl – getting the girl is mostly about your first impression. Of course, in order to keep her you have to actually measure up to whoever you make yourself out to be, but without a solid introduction and follow up date, you’ve got nothing to begin with.
You’re trying to be your best you, so understandably you may be a little nervous, and depending on how pretty the lucky girl is, you may also suddenly feel yourself at a loss for words. Who better to help than your wingman?

1. Taking One For The Team
In order for your friend to make a great first impression, he needs some time alone with the girl he likes. With that said, you have to be able to entertain the friend she came with. No matter how unattractive or boring you may think she is, you have to put on a smile and deal with it until your friend seals the deal, or at least gets a phone number. Take one for the team because if you don’t, one comment from her friend could ruin everything.
2. Playing Bad Cop, Good Cop
In the event that the girl your friend likes is out by herself, your role changes. Hey, you may be the cuter, smarter, more accomplished one between the two of you, but at this moment no one needs to know that. In fact, not only should you not be the center of attention, you should actually make an effort to appear a lot less desirable than you are. It ups your friend’s appeal and makes his new girl feel like she caught the good one.
3. Being Okay With The Possibility Of Not Getting Laid.
It is what it is. Whether you’re the third wheel, or you’re entertaining her friend while yours seals the deal, there is always the possibility that you might not get any. Be prepared to deal with it.
4. Loyalty
This should go without saying, but unfortunately loyalty is one of the most difficult things to find in wingmen these days. No matter what you have to have your man’s back. If your friend says he’s into puppies and used to volunteer at the ASPCA, then roll with it damn it. Or, at the very least, excuse yourself and re-enter at a later part of the conversation. Think Kobe and Shaq – if you play your position, there’s no telling how far the team can go.
5. Being a Good Listener
In the event that you’re the third wheel, listening and co-signing is where you’re at with it. If you’re entertaining the friend she came with, but you’re not really interested in her, you still have to be able to listen and hold an okay conversation (at the very least) until your friend gets the number.
