Franco, who is starring as Ike “Vikar” Jerome in an upcoming film titled Zeroville, gave his followers one final look at his beautiful head of hair before lopping it all off. The selfie showed James, seemingly aboard an airplane, wearing dark black sunglasses, a leather jacket, and a white t-shirt:
“Say goodbye to this hair…you’ll see. Tomorrow,” he captioned the photo.
Upon landing in Rome, James and his stylist prepared for the big shave by taking before and after photos.
The actor shared the news of his new role in the caption for his after photo.
“Get ready for ZEROVILLE,” he wrote.
The film is an adaptation of a 2007 novel written by Steve Erikson. Franco’s character, “Vikar,” is a young man who is completely obsessed with film. He “pursues his obsession with film from on screening to the next and though a series of cinema-besotted conversations and encounters with starlets, burglars, guerrillas, escorts, teenage punks and veteran film editors, only to discover a secret whose clues lie in every film ever made, and only to find that we don’t dream the movies but rather they dream us,” according to the author’s website.
What James didn’t share are photos of his character’s signature head tattoos – one of actor Montgomery Clift and another of famed actress Elizabeth Taylor. He did, however, upload a photo of his stylist applying the fake ink.
But while at the Venice Film Festival Franco showed off the tattoo, which can be seen below.
