Kelsey Smith, the man who is responsible for the death of 3-year-old Jeida Torres (after he fatally beat her when she soiled her diaper), has now been charged with murder.
The 20-year-old was originally charged with assault for the little girl’s death but Brooklyn’s District Attorney has stated the charges were upgraded to murder. Complex reports:
Kelsey Smith was charged with one count of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, and one count each for second and third-degree assault for killing Jeida Torres at a Bushwick homeless shelter on Oct. 18. The 20-year-old also faces two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. The attack sent the girl’s older brother, 5-year-old Andrew Torres, to the hospital as well.
Kelsey was arrested after an alleged suicide attempt last month in Queens in a relative’s home. We pray for the families of Jaida and Kelsey, and will keep you updated on this tragic story.
