Warner Bros. and the Weinstein Company are going at it!

The Weinstein Company is fighting it out for the right to use the title The Butler for their widely anticipated film. Scheduled to come out on August 16th, the movie is in jeopardy of having to change its name!

Why?

Warner Bros. owns the rights to the title The Butler. They released a film with that title way back in the ancient times of 1916.

On CBS This Morning, Weinstein members alleged that two Warner Bros. executives told him that if he relinquished the film rights to J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit — for which Warner Bros. is currently paying Weinstein in order to make the ongoing feature film trilogy of the book — the studio would drop its claim for the title to The Butler.

This battle may put things on hold and cause the Weinstein Company to change the name of their movie featuring Forest Whitaker, Oprah, Cuba Gooding Jr, and many more.

We shall see what happens!
