We love Will Smith for a million different reasons, but the way he shows up for his family definitely tops that list.
The famed actor joined Instagram super late — on December 14th, 2017, to be exact — but his tardiness was no matter, as he hit the ground running and reminded the world of his true star status. Giving us access to the Smith family in a way he never had, Will voluntarily opened up about his journey as a husband and father, even discussing the length of time it’s taken for him to rebuild a once broken relationship with his eldest son, Trey Smith.
In a moment of sheer vulnerability, he told his followers… “It has not always been like this between Trey & I. We STRUGGLED FOR YEARS after my Divorce from his Mother. He felt betrayed & abandoned. It is a Wild Blessing to recover & restore a Loving Relationship with My Beautiful Son!”
“This relationship with Trey is brand new,” he also shared. “When you get divorced and then start another family, that had effects on Trey that we’re still healing and overcoming. Really in the last two years has there been enough wisdom and emotional development to be able to lovingly address the issues. We’re diving into creating a divine, loving friendship.”
In another video about his kids, Will honed in on his relationship with daughter Willow Smith, confessing “Willow has been the most challenging, most beautiful relationship I’ve ever had in my life. Willow got the best of me, that any human being has ever gotten and it is just a beautiful thing to watch her develop and know how to love her better than I’ve ever been able to love anybody.”
