Another Hollywood marriage bit the dust over the holidays, this time comic actor Russell Brand and pop princess Katy Perry called it quits.

STORY: Russell Brand Divorces Katy Perry!

The couple was married 14 months ago, but as it turns out, the two were total opposites. Russell, a former heroin and sex addict and a recovering alcoholic with numerous run-ins with the law, isn’t into the party scene any longer – unlike his rock star wife Katy, who at times is obligated to hob nob with musicians after award shows and concerts.

STORY: Katy Perry Divorce Was Over Her Religious Parents?

Sadly the couple cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for ending their matrimony and with that, comes the talk of the division of marital assets accumulated during the marriage.

According to TMZthe divorce documents say there are “community property assets,” which is a sign there might not be a pre-nuptial agreement, or if there is, one that doesn’t cover all of the earnings and other assets they accumulated.

Record sales, concerts, endorsements and appearances make it clear that Katy has more money and if there isn’t a pre-nup, if Russell wants to, he can demand half of Katy’s earnings.

Of course, if Russell pursues that route he’ll look like a complete a**hole to many people.

But how many times have we seen male celebrities take to the wood chipper over money after a divorce?

Comic icon Richard Pryor said it best when he couldn’t believe his wife wanted half his money after their divorce, “She ain’t tell near a joke” he said. And he’s right.

If Russell is entitled to half of Katy’s wealth and takes it, I wouldn’t be mad at him. Marriage is a contract and if it’s broken then there’s a breach.

Now my colleague, @BlogXilla disagrees, he feels Russell shouldn’t take half and isn’t entitled to anything no matter what. But that’s the way the world works. I tell you one thing, Vanessa Bryant won’t have any qualms about taking half of Kobe Bryant’s millions. She should do like Tina Turner and leave with her name.

As for Katy and Russell, the couple will remain friends after their divorce and it’s not likely things will turn ugly.
