Despite initial reports that a Saturday shooting carried out by two suspects left an officer wounded in Ferguson, Mo., officials are changing their story, saying the incident involved just one suspect.

Police are also retracting a report that said the shooting, which the officer survived, was spurred by a burglary. The officer involved was wearing a body camera, but it was turned off at the time of the shooting. Speaking on behalf of police, St. Louis County Police Sgt. Brian Schellman said he did not know why the camera was off.

From St. Louis Post-Dispatch:

Police originally reported late Saturday night that the officer spotted two suspects trying to break into a business and that when confronted, one of them pulled a gun and fired at the office, wounding him in the arm.

Police, however, now are describing a different scenario: that the police officer, during a business check, saw a male subject in the rear of the Ferguson Community Center. When he approached, the person began to run and the officer followed on foot. During the pursuit, the man spun around and fired at the officer, who was hit in the left arm, before disappearing in the wooded area behind the center.

Police have not released any additional details on the suspect.

Meanwhile, at least eight people were arrested Sunday night after protesting in front of the Ferguson Police Department.

Officers claim bottles and rocks were thrown at them, but according to a report by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the protest was “noisy but calm.”

After several hours of protesters playing drums and pots and pans and riding bikes, police said they would enforce a noise ordinance at 11 p.m. The group quieted and police left the roadway, walking back to the Ferguson Police Department lot.
