A teenager from Birmingham, Alabama was shot and killed during a fight that began on Facebook over the weekend, a CNN affiliate reports.

Kierra’onna Rice, 14, was allegedly bullied by a group of girls on Facebook, according to the girl’s mother, Alicia. Rice and a group of girls decided to meet at a park on Friday to fight face-to-face, where the fight would be videotaped and posted online. During the scuffle, two teenage boys, 17 and 19, fired several rounds at Rice. The teen was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Two others were also injured, but their identities have yet to be released.

The suspects, Antonio King and Jason Wade, were arrested on Monday morning. The two have been placed on a $3 million bond. Police believe one of the suspects was the boyfriend of one of the girls who fought Rice.

Rice’s family, who say they were just recently helping “Keke” find a dress for her Spring Ball, are struggling to cope with the loss. Her mother says she was aware of the situation and tried to stop Keke from confronting the girls in person.

“I called her and I said, ‘Go home.’ She said, ‘I’m going home Momma.’ She text [sic] me and said, ‘Momma, I’m sorry. But I got to fight this girl one more time.’ That’s what she told me. She didn’t tell me where she was when she hung up. And text [sic] me and said, ‘I got to fight her one more time, not one more time but I have to fight her and go and get it over with,'” Alicia recalled.

“I think this is just the one time where somebody just convinced her just to come on, you need to prove yourself. Get this over with,” Keke’s aunt, Tyanna Rice, said.

“She said, ‘I love you so much and I’m going to call you right back.’ But before I could get that call back her mama was calling me and telling me that she was gone,” said Keke’s boyfriend of two years, Javonte Hurst.

Hurst hopes people will learn that fighting through computer screens should never result in a lost life, encouraging others to “put down the weapons.”

A GoFundMe has been created to help pay for Keke’s funeral expenses. So far, $4,900 of the $10,000 has been raised. Find out how you can help here.
