Kanye West‘s alleged mental breakdown that had him hospitalized for a week is still an unsolved mystery.

Although there’s much speculation, fans still don’t have a concrete answer as to why the rapper flipped out or what his specific breaking point was. Kanye’s stepbrother, Hal Carmichael, recently spoke to The Sun regarding his brother’s emotional state.

According to Carmichael, the rapper is experiencing a whirlwind of emotions surrounding his wife’s robbery last month, including feeling betrayed by security guards he hired to protect him and his family. He told reporters, “No one thought Paris would happen in a million years and now he’s seen it happen to Kim, it’s traumatizing. Ye is tired, he’s hurt, he feels betrayed and he’s probably feeling depressed. It’s like who can he trust? You can’t trust anyone, even the people you’ve been paying to protect you. They haven’t been doing their jobs correctly.”

Hal, whose mother was married to Kanye’s dad, continued, “It was so shocking when I found out he was in hospital but I knew in my stomach why… he’s mentally exhausted because he works so hard. Since he started out in the business he has never taken a break, or stopped working. He’s lost it right now because he’s only human.”

As for whether or not his brother is suicidal, Hal says, “I don’t think he would have got to the point where he tried to kill himself. He’s a strong man. His dad is still here, he has his wife and two kids to think about. Kanye would never do anything to himself that might affect the people he loves.”

On Tuesday, Kanye was released from the hospital and it was announced that he’d be canceling the rest of his Saint Pablo Tour for good.
