Thrown into the fire two days after being named Mitt Romney’s running mate, Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan was solo as he greeted supporters at a rally in Iowa.

EXCLUSIVE: Money Mitt & Paper Paul: America’s Great White Hype by Michael Skolnik

Getting his first taste as the campaign heats up, Ryan wasn’t greeted with cheers – but hecklers!

Just minutes after Ryan began speaking, protesters began yelling questions at him about whether he was going to cut Medicaid and demanding he stop waging a “war on the poor.”

The assault didn’t end there. Two women tried to rush the stage, getting within five feet of Ryan before security guards removed them.

After the confrontation, Ryan told the crowd that the women lacked civility:

“You know what? It’s funny. It’s funny because Iowans and Wisconsinites, we like to be respectful of one another and peaceful with one another and listen to one another…These ladies must not be from Iowa and Wisconsin.”

Ryan’s running mate Mitt Romney was heckled at the same Iowa state fair almost a year ago exactly.

This is Ryan’s first test … it only gets harder from here on out!
