Today we see that a government shutdown is becoming more likely as negotiations between both sides continue. Meanwhile in Arizona, people can now carry guns on college campuses.

Inside The Capitol

Where: Arizona

Who: Arizona House

What: The Arizona House on Thursday decided it would be a good idea to allow guns on college campuses, making it only the second state in the nation to allow firearms to be carried at colleges and universities. The Republican-led House voted 33 to 24 to allow firearms to be carried in the open or concealed in public rights of way, such as campus streets and roadways.

Contenders: President Obama vs. House Republicans

Match: President Barack Obama says another round of talks with congressional leaders has helped, but there is no deal yet to avert a government shutdown. Obama said he hoped to be able to announce a deal on Friday but “there’s no certainty yet.” He said he told House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid that he wants an answer in the morning.

What Happened: A strong aftershock ripped through northeastern Japan, killing two people, knocking out power to vast areas Friday and piling misery on a region still buried under the rubble of last month’s devastating tsunami. The 7.1-magnitude tremor late Thursday was the strongest since northeastern Japan’s jumbo 9.0-magnitude quake March 11.

What: In a dramatic turn of events on Thursday, the Waukesha County clerk announced that the vote total announced for Tuesday’s Wisconsin Supreme Court race had been mistaken. 

There were 3,456 missing votes for Democratic-backed challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg and 11,059 for incumbent GOP-backed Justice David Prosser. Kloppenburg has previously been beating Prosser by just 200 votes of the roughly 1.5 million cast statewide. The new total puts Prosser on a significant path to victory, about 7,500 votes ahead of Kloppenburg.

Where: Canada

What: Ashley Kirilow who shaved her head and eyebrows to convince people she had cancer and then pocketed the donations they made to her bogus charity, will not go to jail for the scam. Ashley Kirilow received a 15-month conditional sentence Thursday with 10 months to be served under house arrest.

Brian Foy, an American biologist, took a trip to Senegal to study malaria and accidentally made “virological history,”reports Science magazine, by transmitting an insect-borne virus after having sex with his wife upon return.
