If you have a great song, but you need a banging hook, Roscoe Dash is your guy to nab.

But the Atlanta singer is moving away from being a certified hook killer and wants everyone to “just understand I control everything” with his new EP J.U.I.C.E.

J.U.I.C.E is set to hit store shelves December 20th, but GlobalGrind has all the juice from Roscoe early.

GlobalGrind sat down with the popular hook killer to chit-chat with about working with Kanye West, listening to other R&B singers like The Weeknd, almost becoming a doctor and of course, his music.

Check out our exclusive interview below!

GlobalGrind: How amped are you about the release of your new album J.U.I.C.E.?

Roscoe Dash: I’m ecstatic actually. I put a lot of hard work into this album. And I feel like it’s long overdue. I feel like a lot of people are waiting on it.

How did you come up with the title?

Over the past year and a half, I’ve been a hook man. So I feel like it was time for me to step out of the box and show people that I can do more than just that. So I feel like that was a really good title for it.

How did you get started in music?

I’ve been making music for a really long time, since I was probably 13 years old. I played basketball when I was growing up, but music is one thing I never stopped doing on the side. I found myself doing it before school, after school, before basketball practice, after basketball practice. It slowly but surely took over my life and I felt like that’s what I needed to be doing. It opened so many doors for me and introduced me to so many great people. I decided that’s what I wanted to run with.

Who are some of your musical inspirations?

My biggest inspiration is Outkast, being from Atlanta. I listen to a lot of Ludacris, a lot of different music too like Brian McKnight when I was growing up, Luther Vandross, Gerald Levert. I had no choice. My mom was a diehard fan so I got introduced to a lot of different styles of music. Over time it just grew on me and I wanted to apply it to my own music as well.

Who has been your favorite artist to work with?

Kanye, just because he’s so creative. He teaches you so many different ways to be creative, it’s ridiculous. We were all in the studio all day, and time went by so fast that we didn’t realize we wasted a whole day. I ended up spending a week working with him just learning and being around. You can learn so much just being in a room with him. Another person that I liked to work with is B.o.B. We did a project for his new album. He’s the same way. He plays a lot of instruments. He’s like a musical genius. He has everything in his studio. He’ll play the drums, then the guitar. It’s just crazy being around somebody with so much creative energy.

Who is your dream collaboration?

Andre 3000. I’d also like to work with Frank Ocean and John Legend.

If you could collaborate with any pop artist, who would it be?

Adele. No doubt.

You mentioned basketball. Is that your favorite thing to do besides making music?

Yeah I still do that to this day actually. Any chance I can get, whether I’m on the road or at home, I’m playing.

Have you played ball with a lot of other celebrities?

I did a celebrity basketball game a year and a half ago. I haven’t really played with a celebrity. They don’t want it from me. I got to meet Chris Paul and a lot of other NBA players, Steven Jackson, the list goes on.

If you could only bring three albums with you to a deserted island, what three albums would you bring?

Aquemini, Stankonia, and Kanye’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

What’s something that most people don’t know about you?

Right before I got my deal, I was going to school for anesthesiology and radiology tests.

What made you want to be an anesthesiologist?

The economy was really bad a couple of years ago and still is to this day, really. But it was really bad when it first hit and I felt like the medical field was good. People need x-rays, people go through surgery and people get hurt every day. So I took that route early in high school.

What’s something you cannot live without?

The studio or anything that can record. Sometimes I do it on my phone. When I’m away from the studio, I’ll record songs on my phone and then record them in the studio.

Besides yourself, who are your favorite singers in the game right now?

I’ve been listening to a lot of The Weeknd. Since the mixtapes came out, I haven’t stopped playing them. He’s real. I listen to a lot of Frank Ocean. That also led me to listen to The Weeknd because it made me more open to listen to what they talk about in their music.

What’s been the weirdest or most embarrassing thing that’s happened to you on stage?

I was in Florida doing a show and while I’m performing, this girl in the front of the stage reaches up and grabs me while I’m performing in front of everybody. It was an awkward moment and I had to stop the music. It was so spontaneous and out of the blue. The timing couldn’t have been any worse because I think I was right at the peak of one of my songs. I learned to watch what I’m doing and where I’m standing on stage.

What’s your favorite color?

Red at the moment. A tie between red and green.

What’s your favorite thing to eat?

Gumbo.

Who’s your favorite person?

2Pac is my favorite person in the entire world. To this day.

Do you drink?

Sometimes.

What’s your favorite liquor?

Moet Rose.

There’s this website called Drinkify.org where you type in the artist that you’re listening to and it tells you what drink you should have when listening to that music. We typed in Roscoe Dash and it’s cough syrup, jagermeister, and coconut milk.

Wow. I don’t know how to feel about that. It sounds like someone’s trying to kill themselves.

What’s your favorite thing to wear?

I’ve been wearing a lot of True Religion lately. But another one of my favorite stores to shop in is Zara or Urban Outfitters, stuff like that. You can mix and match the two, but you gotta know what you’re doing.

What’s your most prized possession?

I have a pair of Jordans from when I was in middle school. I’ve never met anybody with these shoes, I can’t wear them to the club, I have to keep these shoes clean. They’re the thunder and lightning 4’s that came out a really long time ago. And I think I have one of the only pairs left.

Do you have any celebrity crushes?

I prefer a regular chick. This industry thing is too much. But I’m not going to say that I’m not open to it.

You like regular, college girls?

Yeah I like girls that have stuff going for themselves and aren’t too high maintenance.

What’s your favorite city that you’ve been to on tour?

It’s a tie between Chicago and D.C.

J.U.I.C.E. is supposed to drop December 13th. What else can your fans expect from you?

We’re going to do a really crazy campaign before this album starts, virally and physically being on the streets. A tour will come either before or after the album drops. I’m actually going to put out another albu

m in the end of February, early March. It’s like a Part 1 and a Part 2.

Is there anything else you want to tell your fans?

Follow me on Twitter (@RoscoeDash) because everybody else has way more followers than me.
