Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has won the Michigan primary, according to a CNN projection.

Surprised? That just may be the feeling of most people considering Rick Santorum got 40% of the union vote in Michigan, whereas Romney only got 26%.

Republican presidential hopefuls Rick Santorum,Mitt Romney,Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul were all on the ballot for Michigan’s primary.
Since his campaign in Michigan began, Mitt Romney has received the endorsement of Republican Michigan Governor Rick Snyder. Romney and his wife Ann, were both born in Michigan, where his father served as Governor from 1963 to 1969.

Both Santorum and Romney spent nearly 2 million dollars campaigning in Michigan. Paul and Gingrich did not pour as much time and resources into either Arizona or Michigan, instead focusing on Super Tuesday states such as Virginia and Georgia.

Super Tuesday, which is next Tuesday, usually is the deciding factor of who gets the party’s nomination.
