The CIA successfully thwarted an attack that is said to have been organized by al-Qaeda operatives in Yemen to commemorate the 1-year anniversary of Osama bin Laden’s death.

According to the Associated Press, the entire process was monitored by White House, CIA, and Saudi officials as part of a “dramatic sting operation.” The operative, whose name has yet to be released, is said to have been an informant for the CIA.

The explosive that was going to be used was very similar to that of the Detroit Christmas “Underwear Bomber” in 2009, which leaves officials to believe that al-Qaeda master bomb maker Ibrahim Hassan al-Asiri is responsible for this bomb as well.

The bomb is said to have contained no metal and instead relied on an undetectable chemical named lead azide.

We are just glad that the CIA was on top of their work and saved many lives in the process.
