When NBC’s Today Show host Matt Lauer called him out about these untruths, Ryan defended his statement with more (get ready for the shocker) truth-twisting.
“What they are trying to suggest is that I said Barack Obama was responsible for the plant shut down in Janesville. That is not what I was saying. Read the speech,” said Ryan referring to his statement that Obama closed a plant in his hometown.
In response, Lauer explained that he read and heard the speech and is convinced that Ryan implied that the plant closed under President Obama’s administration:
“I not only read the speech, but I listened to it as well, and in my opinion it seems like you were unmistakenly trying to link the President with the closing of that plant which you know obviously closed before he became president.”
