If this health care bill is in the best interests of Americans and if the Democrats have the magical 60 in the Senate, why the panic from the party in power?

The average American that has stood unflinchingly behind Democratic leadership in government for years – that would be most of you, friendly Global Grind readers – are either not really paying attention right now or have just grown so apathetic to politics that you miss the on-goings in Washington while still being reliable enough to be called on to bash Republicans whenever needed.

Really – have you asked the question: if the Democrats have the supermajority to do whatever they want with the health care bill, and if the health care bill is the best interests of Americans, and if this is something that the most Americans want, then why are we watching old men and women vote on this thing at 1 AM in the cold after a snow storm after paying off senators within their own majority party with sweetheart deals in order to ensure passage?

They’re the same types of questions that conservatives have been asking the Democrats since the first stimulus package was put into place – you know, the one that was going to keep unemployment under 8% nationally (and, presumably, keep Black America’s unemployment levels from coming close to the roughly 16% – or more – that we face currently.) They’re the same questions that conservatives asked Republicans (certainly not always one in the same – ask the Republicans in New York’s 23rd Congressional District this year) during the Bush years this decade.

Are we going to see the same type of outrage today?

With so much on the line in regards to debt and administration of services to more Americans while also seeing a huge proposed increase to the amount of taxes on many lifestyle choices in American life (for example – no, I’m not looking to hit a tanning bed, but should it really be taxed?), why is it that votes were secured only after Mary Landrieu secured millions for Louisiana, only to be topped by Nelson’s deal which puts the state of Nebraska on the fiscal (health care reform) backs of the other 49 states?

Further, if this bill is for the good of the American people, why is there such a maniacal rush to get the final vote done before the end of the calendar year, precisely before Nancy Pelosi – as she put it – “…takes off her Leader hat and puts on her campaign hat…”?

Americans have already seen much cost go into the price of paying for this form of health care reform, even before the first service has been provided. Sweetheart deals to holdout (Democrat-caucused) senators – the very earmarks Obama said he was going to rid Washington of yet has seemingly overlooked his blatantly-broken promise for the sake of passing this legislation – have cost Americans millions more due to the incorporated perks in the legislation because of the political whims of a select (Democratic-caucused) few. The behavior-bending tax whims baked into these proposals will hit the pocketbooks of America even harder within a few years (those not upset with the “botax” on cosmetic surgeries may grow to be angry once tax ideas such as
