It’s a miracle that Ronald Poppo survived the cannibalistic attack against him in Miami several months ago, but now the 65-year-old man is refusing surgery on his face because he is scared “it’s going to hurt.”

VIDEO: Who Knew? Miami Cannibal, Rudy Eugene, Met Ronald Poppo Before Face-Eating Attack

Poppo, the victim of the gruesome crime, was homeless and sleeping on the side of a Florida causeway when Rudy Eugene, reportedly high off of bath salts, stumbled upon Poppo and started to eat his face.

The bizarre incident caused a sort of frenzy in the U.S., as Eugene became labeled a real-life zombie. Poppo was taken to the hospital and surgery was performed on his face, which Eugene had eaten 80 percent of, but doctors weren’t able to save either of his eyes.

Now Poppo can barely speak and he is entirely blind. He lives at the Jackson Memorial Perdue Medical Center in South Miami-Dade where family members can look after him:

His sister said that when she talks to him, he does not mention the attack or how he passes his time, yet he does like the center and the people who look after him.

‘He says they take him outside and walk him around the place,’ Antoinette Poppo said. ‘He’s glad to be there.

‘He doesn’t really talk much at all. He says, “Take care of yourself.” It’s so sad he can’t see, and has to depend on other people.’

His sister also added that his face has not healed yet, but Poppo is sticking to his guns; more surgery means more pain.

We’re glad Poppo was able to survive such an attack and we pray for his recovery!
