Too bad the United States Postal Service just barely missed out on showcasing their new line “Rain Heat & Snow” at Fall 2013 Fashion Week this year. The press could have given them just the boost they needed.

An epic debut into the fashion industry is just what a $1.3 billion dollar loss in a 3 month time span is calling for. The Postal Service needs to switch up their approach to doing business if they want to change their rapidly shrinking capital, workforce, and offices.
Saturday mail is the most recent service to go, as demand for mail service in general decreases because of the increasingly electronic nature of communication.
This is the second time the Postal Service has resorted to fashion to save their agency. According to CNN, in the 1980s they sold all sorts of branded goods, such as neckties, t-shirts, mugs, and posters, all displaying a stamp print.
The current project will be entirely designed, manufactured, and funded by Cleveland-based apparel company Wahconah Group, Inc. The line will feature all-weather jackets, head gear, and footwear for both men and women.

Postal Service representative Roy Betts explains, “We’re looking at ways we can generate revenue, and we think this clothing line will have market appeal.”
According to Isaac Crawford, Wahconah Group CEO, it’s a win-win because a small percentage of sales will go to the USPS without them having to shell out a dime. He explains his hopes for their collaboration, “You’re talking about an American legacy. We’re hoping it will be very successful.”
